I have always wanted to work in the field of "labor and delivery", I just didn't know it would be as a Birth Doula. I have had a passion for educating and empowering women about birth for years. I chose to study nursing assuming I would work in a hospital as a labor and delivery nurse. However, after obtaining my bachelors degree in nursing, working in a hospital didn't seem like the right fit for me. I went to work with pregnant teens educating them on pregnancy, labor and delivery. I was privileged to attend many births over the years, cheering on sister's and friends as they brought their children into this world. I have such a passion for the birth process and I want to let women know, "You can do this!" After having both of my children with my husband and a family member by my side, I realized the importance of having a support system during such an important time in your life. This spurred my desire to become a doula and help other women as they bring new life into this world, whether it be at a hospital, a birth center or at home. I am fully certified through DONA (Doulas of North America). My training includes an extensive reading list, childbirth education classes, breastfeedingclasses, and training workshops. Through all of this, I have learned what the normal progression of labor is and how to determine what stage of labor a woman is in. I know how to help you cope with contractions and pain through various natural techniques, including massage, visualization, essential oils, water, and position changes. And I know how to support you through the early postpartum period, including giving you basic breastfeeding support and information.
